Philadelphia-based vocalist and producer Ga-Nu, releases her new EP ‘Wandering Soul’ via the Blind Colour imprint, along with remixes from Ink Project, Nate Connelly and Turtle.
Influenced by the likes of Deadmau5, Animal Collective, James Blake and Bon Iver, the ‘Wandering Soul’ EP documents Ga-Nu’s bedroom studio experiences to touch the souls of those who will listen, incorporating electronic-inspired melodies and true-to-heart lyrics, expressing the beauty and pain of her struggles, capturing moments, emotions and vocal contemplations.
Title song ‘Wandering Soul’ is a soothing, hip-hop-inspired lullaby of modern, electronic soul music at it’s best, while second track ‘Waiting For You’ is more reminiscent of Jocelyn Pook’s ‘Masked Ball’ with it’s reversed vocals, raw, loop-station dubby house and spiritual, harmonic composition comparable to the likes of Dead Can Dance.
After the release of their second album and recent live shows with Dreadzone, Ink Project’s epic remix moves the EP into sunnier climes, complete with funk drums, dub fx, delayed guitar, orchestral strings and rhodes keyboards, before Nate Connelly dives into distinctively beautiful, vocal cut-and-paste/wonky ambient territory. Finally, true-to-form and after recently winning Best Video at the Shiny Awards for his song ‘Blood Type’ featuring Eliza Shaddad, Jon Cooper AKA Turtle concludes the release with his breath-taking re-interpretation, complete with slow house grooves, menacing bass and haunting vocal echoes.
