‘Sonnets & Sketches’ is the debut EP from Gongkreeper; the alter-ego of Brighton born, Sweden-based songwriter/producer Joe Cherry.

Serving as a series of audio think-pieces on the topic of morality and indifference in post-modern society, the music sits somewhere between the pensive electronic arrangements of James Blake and the eerie sweeping ballads of Nick Cave - guided by Gong’s dusky baritone vocal.

Opening track ‘Arm’s Length’ is a slice of brooding, down-beat, electronic rock, poetically conveying the paradoxical frustrations of modern day life, the commodification of love and the importance of creating your own meaning in the meaningless – a re-occurring theme throughout the whole release.

Second track ‘Doomed’ moves into more chilled folk-tronica territory, as subjects of blame shifting and using charity for selfish reasons are explored.

Then, after the soothing marching band-like interlude of ‘Auto Pilot’, the intriguingly titled ‘Loose Change Ghandi’ fuses more alternative/trip hop beats and textures with lullaby-like piano and pitch-down ghostly vocals, waxing lyrical about poverty and today’s youth being numbed to the problems of the world.

Final track ‘Solitary Soul’ and it’s search for real love and selflessness finishes the EP on a high, successfully moulding future bass beats with catchy but leftfield, dark pop hooks.
