‘Corporeal’ is the debut EP from The Left Rib; a new duo consisting of established singer/songwriter Belle Benham and pianist/producer Johnny Tomlinson aka La Force.

After coming to fruition at Tomlinson’s studio in Folkestone on the UK’s South Coast, the ‘Corporeal’ creation process began with the organic collection of seaside found sounds, weaving them into a lush tapestry of future bass/electronic production as a backdrop to Benham’s songs.
Opening track ‘Nape’ conjures up a dark, seductive, yet soothing array of ambient textures, while Benham soars above the sonic landscape, singing about the tantalizing, potentially destructive yet satisfying aspects of desire and how we as humans satiate those needs and wants.

Second track ‘Daughter’ moves the EP into more autobiographical, leftfield-pop territory with it’s melodic harp meanderings, fuzzy static noises and swirling water soundscapes, whilst dealing with issues of depression, redemption and re-birth.

Third track ‘Trails’, with it’s beautifully rich, soulful gospel harmonies, rhodes chord tinkerings, finger clicks, sine wave bass murmurs and basic, throbbing kick drum, is a song about the importance of thought processes and patterns that can lead and mislead us; before concluding with the orchestral, electronic/soul of ‘Evening Star’, a song exploring the internal duality and struggle within and our need to find guidance and salvation.
